“To move house” jest raczej dziwnym zwrotem. Ostatecznie domy nie zmieniają miejsca. Ludzie, owszem, zmieniają miejsce zamieszkania i w potocznym angielskim ta czynność jest znana jako “moving house” czyli dokonywanie przeprowadzki. Z tym związane jest zawsze kilka spraw do załatwienia – spisanie liczników, przeniesienie lini telefonicznej, zwrot depozytu itp. W dialogu poniżej Agnieszka rozmawia z Deirdrą o swoich doświadczeniach przy niedawnej przeprowadzce. Proszę zwrócić uwagę na podkreślone zwroty zwłaszcza te potoczne, używane w wielu codziennych sytuacjach.

Deirdre: Hi Tatiana, how’s the new house, are you all settled in well?
Tatiana: I’d love to say that but it is taking much longer than expected.
Deirdre: You mean packing stuff and all?
Tatiana: Yes, but not only that. To start with I underestimated the number of things I have. I packed all suitcases, rucksacks, bags and boxes I had but this was only a start of it and of course it did not fit in my car.
Deirdre: Why does it not surprise me at all? You should have called in some movers
Tatiana: Movers?
Deirdre: You know, a removal company, people who offer moving services for people like you.
Tatiana: Yeah, you are probably right... Anyway I did everything myself but I am now very tired from lifting boxes, loading and unloading the car and running up and down the stairs so many times.
Deirdre: Did you get your deposit back from the landlord?
Tatiana: Yes, he said the house was in ship shape and gave me the money with no quibble.
Deirdre: That’s great! My previous landlords turned out to be very petty about things. Each time I moved out they took a few hundreds off the deposit for holes or pins in the walls and things like that. When you start nitpicking you will always find something. Anyway you are sorted now, aren’t you?
Tatiana: Yeah, I took all meter readings at both addresses so at least I don’t have to worry about gas and electricity bills. But there is still an issue with my phone landline and the broadband and then I will have to notify my bank, the revenue, motor tax office and the insurance about the change of address.
Deirdre: Don’t forget about the waste disposal company or you might end up paying for someone’s else rubbish.
